Gera Farm

Located around 440 km outside the capital city Addis Ababa, Gera is a district in western Oromia close to the city of Jimma. We established our first farm in this forestry region in 2008 with a land close to 100 hectares. Since then, we have been closely expanding the farm size and as of 2019, we feel privileged to say our farm is home to 500 hectares of organic and flavorful coffee trees. Two of the most important practices we took to achieve a healthy farm is to collaborate with the research institute in Jimma to select local cultivars best suited for the location as well as sustainable tree stumping. Over the past couple of years, we have harvested over 500,000 kg of red cherries annually. From this over 80% is sold washed whereas the other 20% is sold natural sundried. With the global recognition Gera beans are getting we feel this is just the beginning with our farm. Most of our beans meet grade one standard and are sweet, fruity, and bright. Although, we have been focusing on increasing productivity on current plantations, we are also planning to plant more beans through the remaining 500 hectares whilst preserving the forest and minimizing the effect on existing habitat.

Our Social Contribution

At Tracon, we firmly believe in education and the positive impact it can bring to a community. Consequently, we have built an elementary and middle school for the local community in which our local kids are enrolled in. To better access clean and safe water, we have also invested several million birrs into drilling a water well.
